International LST and Emissivity Group

The International Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity Working Group (ILSTE-WG) aims to provide advice and recommendations to the wider scientific and user communities on the best practices for retrieval, validation and exploitation of Land Surface Temperature (LST), Ice Surface Temperature (IST), Lake Surface Water Temperature (LSWT), and Land Surface Emissivity (LSE).

Registration is now open for the 4rd GlobTemperature User Consultation Meeting which will take place over 1.5 days in Lisbon, Portugal and will be hosted by the Instituto Portugues do Mar e Atmosfera (IPMA). The meeting is open to all who are interested in attending, and there will be no registration fee. We would like to encourage you to start thinking about abstracts for oral and poster presentations as there will be plenty of opportunities at the meeting to showcase your research.

Meeting Objectives

Following successful previous meetings, the aim of this 4th consultation meeting is to provide a forum for the satellite Land, Ice and Lake Surface Temperature (LST / IST / LSWT) and Land Surface Air Temperature (LSAT) communities to share experiences and review developments in satellite retrievals and data sets.

The meeting will consolidate current User Requirements, assess the provision of LST, IST and LSWT products from the GlobTemperature Data Portal, and explore and communicate understanding on validation and uncertainties. By bringing the international land surface temperature and emissivity communities together the meeting aims to cultivate communication between users and data providers, providing a forum to develop strategies and collaborations to maximise the uses of satellite surface temperature data for the long term.

As with previous meetings, a limited amount of travel support is available. If you will require subsidy of travel and/or subsistence in order to participate, please feel free to contact Darren Ghent to apply for travel support, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis subject to the approval of ESA.

A preliminary programme will be released in due course.

Other meetings

The meeting will be followed by the 4th General Meeting of the International LST and Emissivity Working Group (ILSTE) on Wednesday 8th June 2016. This year the GlobTemperature User Consultation Meeting will be also include a session hosted by the LSA SAF community.

UCM#4 will also be held in conjunction with the Elevation-dependent Warming (EDW) working group who are running a mini-workshop on Monday 6th June hosted by IPMA to start at 11:00. This workshop is supported by the GlobTemperature team and is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Please contact Nathan Forsythe (nathan.forsythe(at) for further details.
