International LST and Emissivity Group

The International Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity Working Group (ILSTE-WG) aims to provide advice and recommendations to the wider scientific and user communities on the best practices for retrieval, validation and exploitation of Land Surface Temperature (LST), Ice Surface Temperature (IST), Lake Surface Water Temperature (LSWT), and Land Surface Emissivity (LSE).

We are pleased to announce a Joint EUSTACE- GlobTemperature Workshop which will take place from Monday 27th (lunch) to Wednesday 29th November 2017 (lunch) in Lisbon, Portugal and will be hosted by the Instituto Portugues do Mar e Atmosfera (IPMA).

Following successful ESA DUE GlobTemperature ( User Consultation Meetings (UCMs), a 5th consultation meeting has linked-up with the H2020 EUSTACE ( Project to deliver a joint workshop for the satellite and air surface temperature communities to share experiences and review developments with a particular focus on climate requirements. The aim of the EUSTACE Project is to give publicly available daily estimates of surface air temperature since 1850 across the globe for the first time by combining surface and satellite data using novel statistical techniques.

By bringing the satellite and modelling communities together the meeting aims to cultivate communication between users and data providers, providing a forum to develop strategies and collaborations to maximise the uses of surface temperature data for the long term.

The meeting is open to all who are interested in attending, and there will be no registration fee.
The registration site will open at the end of this month when a further announcement will be made.
We would like to encourage you to start thinking about abstracts for oral and poster presentations as there will be plenty of opportunities at the meeting to showcase your research.

As with previous GlobTemperature UCMs a limited amount of travel support is available. If you will require subsidy of travel and/or subsistence in order to participate, please feel free to contact me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to apply for travel support, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis subject to the approval of ESA.

The meeting will include a session for the 6th General Meeting of the International LST and Emissivity Working Group (ILSTE).
With LST now incorporated into the 2016 GCOS Implementation Plan this session will assess User Requirements for climate, assess the provision of data products, explore and communicate understanding on validation and uncertainties, and build towards cross-ECV activities.

For any question you may have about the Workshop please feel free to contact myself or Janette Bessembinder (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
