International LST and Emissivity Group

The International Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity Working Group (ILSTE-WG) aims to provide advice and recommendations to the wider scientific and user communities on the best practices for retrieval, validation and exploitation of Land Surface Temperature (LST), Ice Surface Temperature (IST), Lake Surface Water Temperature (LSWT), and Land Surface Emissivity (LSE).

Period of report: July-August 2015

The main activities in this reporting period can be summarised as follows:

  • Finalised definition of LST sent to GCOS for feedback prior to telecon in September
  • Most of demands raised during the UCM#3 implemented in the test server – migration to the operational portal planned in late September
  • Production of in-situ LST data files for Georg-von-Neumayer station, Antarctica; ARM's Southern
  • Great Plains (SGP) and North Slope of Alaska (NSA) stations
  • Match-up of multi-sensor data over the Gobabeb station area for period 2009-2011 for intercomparison
  • Development of consistent approach to uncertainty estimation for all single-sensor products (and applicable to Merged Product) – this has been developed for ATSR and MODIS
  • A further Microwave Product (developed by T. Holmes) is in the process of being acquired for linking to from the Data Portal
